  • Barbeque grills & smokers

Anyone build a grill from a butane tank.I have one handy and wondering if it would work.Lets see some homemade grills!Need some ideas

Made 30 or so from 15lb propane tanks. Dont have pics though. Take valve out. Turn upside down and let sit a few days. Cut in half longways or upright. Longways cut looks better to me but it is much more complicated than the stand up smoker style.

I just started building pits, does a guy have to worry about after taste from the propane? I often wondered about this.

im sure an unseasoned steak will have some aftertaste to elitest snobs.
but i season my meat heavily, and have never noticed.

i think the main issue whould be "lack of wood taste" that would effect the gas grills.

            here piggy piggy

So my next pit I am going to start, right away is for a guy who wants to be able to BBQ/smoke a whole pig, he said he'd like it to be 30" x6' long and with a steak grill on the end, 30"x 3/8s wall pipe is $80 per foot which = $480(+/-) but I have found 24" @ 35 per foot which = $210. My question is could a guy get by with 24" to do a whole pig or should you go to 30" pipe? There is not alot of guys doing pits around me so Its a wide open market for me, and I dont think cost is a factor in this project but of course I try to keep over head down if you know what I mean. I would like to here from you pit guys on this idea

seems to me after you get it good and hot a few times and cook in it some, it will season it's self. Cleaned my grill once, that was one of the dumbest things I ever did. took almost a month to get it to cook right again.

Just thinking out loud, you might want to get it good and hot to break it in, before you put food in it. Never did one that big, but all the stuff I cook on thats the treatment it gets.

so when's the party? will there be beverages?

                          hogg cooker

Stick man thats one big hogg cooker, Its not as big here as its down south like you guys, so I think 30" is plenty big enough for this guy but sure as heck I'll have to build the next guy a bigger one then his. We have been know'en to have a redneck way of thinking around here. I was just talking to a guy from way down there somewhere's and he said 42"x around 5-6' is standard around where he is at I most likely couldn't afford to fill that full of hogg.

Weldingrod guys that build these pits around by you, do they make a living at this pit building? Do they mig everything, so it goes faster? I just tacked my pit together cause I am a rod burner it didn't go as fast as I would have liked,
I think I'll have to get out my 12 RC if I plan on making any money at this.

Trstek BBQs at my place here in Okotoks, I will have everything to eat here,
you bring the drink, I drink JACK single barrel

here's a pit I am working on right now(3/4s done). Color is bad cause of my phone,
the big door under the drawer also opens for storage in picture #3
I have alot to learner befor I can call myself a pitmaster but I am sure I'll learn as I go Its my first and I'd do alot of things different on the next one forsure, just gives ya an idea the way mine is now its gettin close to being done, A good coat of flat black and you wont see my mistakes

this thing is almost going to be to big, iam either going to have to put counter weight on door of electric winch, cause their aint going to be no lifting it. dan how did you hook your warming box into cooker, this is my first one to, iam working off the customers ideas put want to make sure he gets the best bang for his buck, so any advice would be great. and mig is the only way to go and make any time, sure wish hadn't sold my mm210 couple weeks ago.
