  • Carolina HD10 Band Saw

    Hey Guys,
Are you familiar with a band saw made by Carolina? There is one for sale locally a Carolina HD10 and the price is $450. The man selling the saw said it was not cutting straight. He went over it and finally he replaced the blade. According to him it works perfectly now. Are these capable of being used vertically also? Let me know what you think.
    Thanks,
    Nick

I just did a little google search on it and I dont think I would touch it unless it were free. Here is a couple of forrum links I found where people talk about them. They say they were husled out of the back of pickup trucks.

I saw one for sale locally too, and found the same information-- "Boss ordered too many saws and said to sell these."

Kinda sleezy way to sell equipment.

I have one it's about 20-30 years old. I like it cuts straight and can be used vertically. And I also bought it off a pickup truck.

Thanks for the advice. Looks like folks are kind of split on whether it is or is not a good saw. If anyone else has some experience with this saw please let me know.
          Thanks,

I'm not familiar with the forum that I posted the link to, but the one thing I found disturbing about what those people were saying is that the saw claims to be made in the USA but in reality they are made in china and assembled in Carolina. It seems that the biggest problem was that the bow was not strait on a lot of them and once that got rectified they had an OK saw.

                Hey Pete and Xray,
After reading through all of these threads I have decided unless I get it for a steal I am going to pass. Not many folks seem to know much about these saws and there are a lot of negative comments. A bunch of folks have said the same thing as Pete and that is that the bows are not straight.
                Thanks for all the help,
                Nick

Hey I appreciate your post Joe. It just makes me confident I made the right decision. I called the gentleman today about the saw so that he would not be left hanging. I explained to him that I was lucky and was able to consult some very knowledgeable professionals about the saw and their collective opinion was that I was better off not purchasing the saw. What did I get for being polite and calling instead of just not showing up on Saturday? One PIS*ED OFF guy. Oh well. Anyway as always thanks a lot for your help and advice. You guys are the best!
