      the "Raunchero"

Made it to Wisconsin. This day was BRUTAL...

9 hours to get here. The route wasn't just long, it was through stop and go traffic in Chicago, plus a bridge out and we started having some trouble with the fuel pump (well, not technically yet, but it sure is sounding different...), had some trouble with the carb, and of course engine and trans getting hot with the temps today and the traffic. Stop lights everywhere!!

We have to stop and get gas every five seconds too, so that doesn't help. Neither does having a 4100 lbs drag car pulling a trailer.

New slicks for tomorrow, a couple of on the fly repairs...starter celluloid, cooling fans rewired, added a couple of circuit breakers.

The one thing I didn't have that I needed today was a couple of nails. Part of my tool box hold down pieces came loose...so much for using just staples!! Had to buy a bag of screws at NAPA and drive then into some plywood with...yup...a screwdriver. Hadn't done that in a while.

I actually could've done a little welding for a guy today but he found a tire shop to do it for him. I guess the tire shop guy knows what he's doing with welding on a rear shock mount for a drag car. I offered.

Yesterday the tower was calling for a welder to help a guy out, but I was too busy to cut lose.

Anyway, that's my long winded update! Thanks for paying attention!!

            the "Raunchero"

Yup. More of the same. Something has changed. We tuned to run 10.0 and did so consistently over a two week period prior to coming. I don't know enough about how the altitude and temp etc affect the tuning, so we're gonna give the valves a once over, test the fuel pump...think we might be leaning out and starving the engine of some nitrous in the second half. Regardless, we should be in the finals on Friday...barring something breaking...

              the "Raunchero"

Up late and adjusted the valves, but something more interesting than that is we found a rocker arm that was about to give up. Looks like the part of the steel seat for the the push rod came loose and was pushing itself though the oil hole. Fuel pressure for the carb was actually a little high and the fuel pressure for the nitrous was a little low. Factoring all this together...maybe that's the issue. We're gonna do a couple more things later this morning.

                    That's it. 10.04

Rained out? That's not good for us. If everyone didn't get a pass, then our pass won't count. Dang. I'll have to check later.

But, looks like the work we did last night put us back in line for what we tuned for.

and both 63 Falcon Wagon & Silver camaro ran slower today... from what I saw...

Ya, a solid effort, lost in the third round of the finals.

Tomorrow is just a random scheduled race, so we're gonna go out there and try to really push this car to the limit...
