As before
As before in your other post, and especially after seeing this. You need to get ahold of kawasaki as get the specifics on the frame. I think if you just try to "weld up the cracks" your going to end up with a very questionable repair. I dont think you can go into this blind, you need to know what your working on. And as a side note, If it were mine and I repaired it, I would NEVER sell it nor even allow someone else to ride it. Just something to think about."Better Metalworking Through Research"

Dman,
You just bought this bike? I know for a fact my bike was totaled by the insurance company because my frame had a small dent. Wheelies generally cause cracks by the head tube from being slammed down too hard but that crack is up high on the main frame spur. Second hand or not if this bike has a clean title I'd contact Kawasaki.
Just my 2 cents = That crack has to be from severe abuse or a wreck.
I'll make no bad comments about a crotch rocket, because I'm getting the itch for another one myself. Too bad Honda has decided to make their bikes look like GSXR's.The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not. Well your going to be more asking than sayingThe bike is 8 years old right, so the warranty is out. Safetly issue?? I dont think you could hold them accountable for anything as there is no recorded history of the machine, its use, abuse etc. At this point I would ask them:
A) is this a common failure?
B) Is there a factory repair method
C) If not then ask, What is the base material, and what is the heat treatment after welding. Also ask what filler was used, as well as pre-heat temperatures.
Now for liability reasons they may not tell you what the alloys are. You may get a more friendly response buy saying you want to build the motorcycle for racing and not street use."Better Metalworking Through Research"

The crack that is next to the weld is the most common place to have it crack.
That is called the heat affected zone.
Congrats on getting a new frame.
A friend of mine use to do aluminum rim repairs, as did I.
One day we were discussing this and he elaborated that one day he had a couple Ford engineers in his shop and they warned him that the aluminum rims are heat treated.
Based on that I would also have to guess that the aluminum frame is also heat treated.
