Just looked at thread and was going to tell you to call kawi. But I read that you already did. Kawi had a major problem with there frames that year. My buddy has a Zx-10 with the same issue and the replaced his frame also.

suzuki sidekicks,viteras were famous for A-frame cross members cracking.There was a recall for people who had a paper trail for them to recieve a letter...had a friend with a 10 year old grand vitera who had his crack,told him to inquire about recall.Suzuki replaced cross member but told him it was done for customer satisfaction,nothing of a recall was ever told to him.Dig a little deeper, may be a reason for their willingness to replace it.Either way you won...

Kudos to the manufacturer. This is a really big deal. It really says very good things about Kawasaki. I hadn't consider them for my next bike, but probably need to add them to the list of bikes to consider next time around. (I've got two Suzuki SV1000s bikes now.)

yeh i couldnt beleive it i called to see if by chance there had been any recalls on the frames an they said no there hasnt and then i asked if they could tell me what type of aluminum was used for the frame like some of u have mentioned so i could let the guy know who was gona weld it and he said hed check and call me back then he called about an hour later and said dont worry about having it welded cuz were gona warrenty that frame for you and to get ahold of a kawasaki dealer near me explain and give them a log number and it would be taken care of i asked if i had to pay anything and he said nope not one penny ###### ive always owned kawasaki and now for what there doing will always buy a kawasaki#########

As I suspected in the previous thread, the crack propagated adjacent to the weld. If you were to re-weld it, it would pretty much to the same, especially if you don't do any heat treatment. The ripples in the weld create stress concentrations. That crack didn't happen all at once. It started small and grew.

The crack that is next to the weld is the most common place to have it crack.

That is called the heat affected zone.

Congrats on getting a new frame.

A friend of mine use to do aluminum rim repairs, as did I.

One day we were discussing this and he elaborated that one day he had a couple Ford engineers in his shop and they warned him that the aluminum rims are heat treated.

Based on that I would also have to guess that the aluminum frame is also heat treated.

I'm wondering if this is a chronic problem with that frame. That was too easy. I didn't think anyone had customer service like that anymore.

i called kawasaki a little bit ago and they said they will replace the frame at no cost to me awsome
