It's always sad to hear about the loss of any competitor in motorsports. My thoughts go out to the Kalitta family and to the rest of the racing community that will miss him as well.

It was indeed a difficult end to an otherwise OK weekend for me. The mood there changed in an instant. I will keep the Kalitta family in my thoughts tonight, and I gave my son an extra hug and kiss before bed.

I've never been a huge drag racing fan but any loss to the motorsports community is tragic. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones.

I confess I don't follow drag racing the way I used to follow NASCAR but I honestly hate to see harm come to anyone in competition, and especially the horrible way he had to leave us. I hope he didn't suffer. It really shocked me. Stay safe out there gang.

Its to bad to see him gone at such a young age and to know that he left two kids without a father is what bothers me the most.

I read the article saying his home town was Mt Clemens, MI.

His Home town is actually BelleVille, MI

I used to build all of their stairways at Willow run Airport and have done some work at his house years ago.

Its very sad to hear that hes gone.
